- Pi Network is asking Mainnet node operators to upgrade to Protocol v25.
- Updated nodes help maintain network connection and blockchain stability.
- Pi uses a trust-based consensus model instead of traditional mining.
Pi Network has issued a new warning to Mainnet node operators, asking those who have not yet updated to Protocol v25 to complete the upgrade as soon as possible. The move is aimed at ensuring continued participation in the network as Pi continues advancing its blockchain infrastructure.
The Pi Core Team said most Mainnet node operators have already migrated to the latest protocol version. The upgrade process is expected to be quick and follows a similar approach to earlier Pi Network updates, allowing operators to complete the transition within minutes.
Why Protocol v25 Matters for Pi Mainnet Nodes
The latest reminder highlights the importance of keeping node software updated. Operators who delay the upgrade could risk losing their connection to the Pi Mainnet, although the project has not announced a specific cutoff date.
Pi Network nodes play a key role in maintaining blockchain operations. Unlike Bitcoin and Ethereum, which rely on proof-of-work systems, Pi uses a consensus mechanism inspired by the Stellar Consensus Protocol. This approach allows nodes to work through trusted groups known as quorum slices, using relationships created through users’ security circles.
The network’s trust model is designed to help participants reach agreement on transaction validity without requiring traditional mining.
Understanding Pi Node Roles and Participation
Pi nodes operate through desktop and laptop computers rather than mobile devices. Participants can join at different levels depending on their involvement.
The Computer App provides basic access features such as viewing balances and communication tools. A Node role takes part in blockchain verification and transaction processing after approval. SuperNodes represent the highest level of participation, supporting network consensus and requiring strong hardware, reliable internet, and continuous availability.
Pi selects Node and SuperNode participants based on factors such as uptime, connection quality, system performance, community activity, and trust scores linked to security circles. Approved operators must also complete KYC verification before joining.
Operators Encouraged to Complete Upgrade Quickly
While Pi Network has not set a final deadline for Protocol v25 adoption, the team is encouraging all remaining operators to update promptly. The upgrade is considered a necessary step for maintaining stable network participation.
As Pi continues developing its Mainnet ecosystem, node reliability and software consistency remain central to the project’s long-term goals. The latest upgrade reminder shows the network’s focus on keeping its infrastructure aligned as more users and applications engage with the blockchain.
