  • TON now finalizes transactions in 0.6 seconds, leading all Layer 1 blockchains.
  • Bitcoin and older networks lag far behind in settlement speed.
  • Telegram’s validator role strengthens TON’s ecosystem and market influence.

The race among Layer 1 blockchains has taken a sharp turn after new data shared by Telegram founder Pavel Durov highlighted The Open Network (TON) as the fastest network for transaction finality. According to the figures, TON now finalizes transactions in just 0.6 seconds, placing it far ahead of major competitors, including Bitcoin. The comparison underscores a widening performance gap in the blockchain sector as networks compete for real-world payment and settlement use cases.

TON’s Sub-Second Finality Leads Layer 1 Rankings

The latest data positions TON at the top of Layer 1 blockchain speed rankings following its recent Catchain 2.0 upgrade. With block times averaging around 400 milliseconds, the network now reaches finality in under a second.

This is a significant shift from traditional networks like Bitcoin, which typically requires about an hour to fully confirm transactions under standard security assumptions. That makes TON roughly 6,000 times faster in finalization.

The improvement strengthens TON’s case as a real-time settlement layer, especially for payments and high-frequency applications where speed is critical.

How Other Blockchains Stack Up

Beyond TON and Bitcoin, the report shows a wide spectrum of performance across major Layer 1 networks. Several modern chains such as Solana complete finality in about 13 seconds, while networks like Ethereum take around 13 minutes.

Mid-tier performers, including Avalanche and BNB Smart Chain, settle transactions in under two seconds. Meanwhile, older or more conservative systems like Cardano extend finality times to as long as a full day.

The data highlights a clear divide in the market: newer high-throughput chains are prioritizing speed, while legacy designs maintain slower but often more conservative security models.

Telegram Deepens Its Role in TON’s Ecosystem

Alongside the performance milestone, Durov confirmed that Telegram has become the largest validator on TON. The company has staked roughly 2.2 million TON, strengthening its operational influence over the network.

This move positions Telegram more deeply within the blockchain ecosystem it originally helped incubate. While supporters argue that major validators improve network stability, critics warn that increasing concentration of staking power could raise governance concerns.

Still, the staking activity has had a notable market impact, with increased demand reducing circulating supply and tightening liquidity.

Following the announcement, Toncoin saw a price uptick as investors reacted to Telegram’s deeper commitment and TON’s technical lead. However, long-term success will depend on whether real-world applications can match the network’s performance gains.

TON’s sub-second finality marks a defining moment in Layer 1 competition. While speed alone does not guarantee dominance, the latest data shows that blockchain performance is becoming a key battleground shaping future adoption.
