ZachXBT Helps Recover $20M from Hack, But Gets No Reward: Crypto Community Calls for Fair Compensation

ZachXBT, a renowned blockchain investigator, has been a pivotal force in uncovering major crypto scams and holding bad actors accountable. Despite his significant contributions, including recovering stolen funds and exposing fraudulent schemes, ZachXBT revealed a startling truth: financial reward has never been his priority. His dedication to the crypto space, however, has not come without personal sacrifices.

In a recent discussion on X (formerly Twitter), ZachXBT shared his frustrations, citing examples where his work led to major recoveries, like helping the U.S. government recover millions after a hack. Yet, despite his critical role in these operations, ZachXBT admitted that he received no financial compensation. “I just have many examples like this,” he stated, reflecting the grim reality for independent investigators in the crypto industry.

ZachXBT’s work has been instrumental in exposing complex scams, such as fraudulent meme coin operations and hackers behind a $243 million crypto heist. His on-chain investigations led to the arrest of two hackers, underlining the crucial role of blockchain sleuths in maintaining the integrity of the space.

However, as crypto scams continue to rise, the issue of fair compensation for independent investigators like ZachXBT has become more pressing. The lack of institutional backing and financial reward for such critical work is a growing concern. In response, Joey Moose, a prominent Pudgy Penguin NFT holder, launched a fundraising campaign to support ZachXBT’s efforts. Although the initiative gained traction, some raised doubts about its legitimacy, given that ZachXBT already has a public donation address.

Despite the skepticism, the need for fair compensation remains clear. As scams proliferate, the work of blockchain investigators like ZachXBT becomes more vital, not just for recovering stolen assets, but for rebuilding trust in the crypto industry as a whole.
