IOTA Rebased Launch: Your Step-by-Step Guide to a Smooth Transition

IOTA Rebased

With the highly anticipated IOTA Rebased upgrade less than 36 hours away, the IOTA Foundation has provided clear and concise instructions to ensure all users can seamlessly transition their tokens to the upgraded network.

The launch, a landmark event for IOTA, promises significant advancements, and securing your existing holdings is paramount. Importantly, importing your Ledger profile or 24-word seed phrase requires no coding knowledge, making the process accessible to everyone in the community.

Preparing Your Ledger for the Rebased Upgrade

For IOTA users who secure their assets with a Ledger hardware wallet, a few essential steps are necessary to prepare for the Rebased launch. First, ensure your Ledger device is plugged into your computer and unlocked using your PIN. Next, navigate to and open the IOTA application on your Ledger by pressing both buttons simultaneously. Within the IOTA app’s settings, locate the “Blind signing” option and ensure it is enabled. This crucial step grants the necessary permissions for your Ledger to interact with the upgraded IOTA network.

Importing Your Profile via Ledger or Mnemonic

Once your Ledger is prepared, or if you are importing using your 24-word seed phrase, the next step involves downloading the official IOTA WebWallet. This can be easily done by visiting the Chrome Web Store and installing the “IOTA Wallet” extension. Upon successful installation, the wallet will automatically open, presenting a user-friendly interface.

To begin the import process, click the “Add Profile” button within the WebWallet.

  • Ledger Import: Select the “Ledger” option and click “Continue.” The wallet will then prompt you to select your connected Ledger device and click “Connect.” Next, choose the IOTA addresses associated with your Ledger and click “Next.” You will then be asked to enter and verify a password to secure your new wallet profile. Finally, click “Start (Balancefinder).”
  • Mnemonic Import: If you are importing using your 24-word seed phrase, select the “Mnemonic” option. Carefully and accurately enter your 24 words, remembering to NEVER EVER SHARE THESE WORDS WITH ANYONE. The subsequent steps for choosing addresses and setting a password are the same as with the Ledger import.

Finalizing and Verifying Your Balance with the Migration Tool

After completing the import process, it’s essential to ensure your balance is correctly displayed. The IOTA Foundation has integrated a dedicated “Migration Tool” within the WebWallet to address any potential discrepancies. If your initial balance appears incomplete, navigate to the “Dashboard” within the WebWallet. In the top right corner, you will find a “Start Migration” button. Click this, followed by “Migrate All” and then “Migrate” again. Ledger users will need to confirm this transaction on their physical device. After this step, your IOTA balance should be accurately reflected in your new Rebased wallet.

With the IOTA Rebased launch just hours away, these straightforward instructions empower every IOTA holder to confidently transition their assets to the upgraded network. The emphasis on ease of use underscores the IOTA Foundation’s commitment to a smooth and inclusive launch day for its global community.
