Catizen Airdrop Sparks Mixed Reactions as Bombie Players Await Token Rollout – What’s Next?

Telegram’s popular play-to-earn (P2E) game, Catizen (CATI), wrapped up its highly anticipated “Airdrop Pass Season 1” in mid-September 2024, distributing millions of CATI tokens and points for other games. While the event was designed to engage players across its ecosystem, including its side-scrolling zombie shooter, Bombie, and trading platform, Vanilla Finance, the underwhelming returns from the Season 1 airdrop have left long-time players frustrated.

The CATI Airdrop Pass, which ran for 90 days, allowed players to earn points through various in-game activities, social media interactions, and purchases. A “premium pass” priced at $42 granted higher rewards, and players could accumulate points across Catizen, Bombie, and Vanilla Finance. The total pool for Season 1 was 10 million CATI tokens, with Bombie points tied to the unreleased Bombie token, while Vanilla Finance rewarded players with Sugar to level up their trading accounts.

However, despite the widespread excitement surrounding the airdrop, the returns were lower than expected, prompting many to question the status of the Bombie airdrop. With over 9 million players in Bombie, the second-most popular game within the Catizen App Center, the growing concerns over the delayed or non-existent Bombie airdrop have been amplified. Currently, Catizen is pushing forward with Season 2 of its airdrop pass, which still includes point allocations for Bombie, but without any clear communication about when Bombie’s airdrop or token generation event (TGE) will occur.

Adding to the confusion, recent social media posts from Bombie’s team, including announcements of a Tesla car giveaway, have left players disgruntled and searching for answers. The ambiguity surrounding the Bombie tokenomics—especially the allocation of 70% of its budget to the airdrop—has only fueled speculation about how and when the game will deliver its promised rewards.

As players remain uncertain about the future of Bombie’s airdrop, many are grappling with the sunk cost fallacy, unsure whether their continued investments in the game will ever pay off. With no clear timeline for the TGE, the frustration among Bombie players is palpable.
