  • Mithril Update Enhances Scalability on Cardano Mainnet, Supporting Long-Term Blockchain Growth

Cardano is making strategic leaps on both technical and geographical fronts with the release of node version 10.4.1. This latest upgrade introduces UTXO-HD, a feature designed to boost node efficiency by allowing the UTXO set—the ledger of unspent transactions—to be stored externally rather than entirely in memory. The change significantly reduces memory usage, making it easier for lightweight nodes such as wallets and blockchain explorers to operate. Although performance may slightly dip due to the use of external SSD or HDD storage, the trade-off results in greater accessibility and efficiency.

The UTXO-HD feature currently relies on an LMDB backend, but developers plan to switch to a more optimized LSM tree backend in upcoming versions. Additional upgrades include improved tracing systems, configuration tweaks for LedgerDB, and an update to Plutus version 1.45, all of which enhance Cardano’s operational stability.

Cardano Accelerates Growth in Argentina

Beyond software, Cardano is cementing its presence in Latin America through key partnerships. On June 7, 2024, Input Output Global (IOG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Faculty of Law at the University of Buenos Aires. This collaboration aims to explore blockchain’s role in legal innovation, including hosting a Constitutional Convention on-chain.

Meanwhile, the Cardano Foundation inked a separate agreement with the province of Entre Ríos to advance blockchain integration in public sector services. These initiatives showcase Cardano’s focus on real-world utility and its commitment to fostering digital transformation across emerging markets.

Scaling and Community Momentum

On the scalability front, the Mithril team introduced incremental certification for the Cardano node database on the release-mainnet network. This enhances both speed and resilience, positioning Cardano for broader adoption. Mithril engineers also progressed on the DMQ node, enabling continuous signature processing to support more robust data validation.

Cardano’s community engagement remains strong. The recent Argentina Digital Nation event drew over 400 attendees, including lawmakers and tech experts. The event underscored Cardano’s growing influence in Latin America and highlighted its role in promoting transparent, decentralized systems.

As Cardano continues to scale technically and geographically, its blend of innovation, strategic partnerships, and community outreach reinforces its position as a leader in blockchain adoption.
