BNB Chain has just destroyed more than a billion dollars of its own token. The BNB Foundation confirmed on October 19 that the 37th BNB burn is complete, permanently removing 1,646,196.44 BNB, worth roughly $1.197 billion around the time of the burn.
The Numbers
Total supply now stands at 131,512,085 BNB, as of 10:05 UTC. The tokens went to the standard “blackhole” address, and the transaction is verifiable on BscScan. The long-term target is 100 million BNB, which leaves about 31.5 million still to burn. The Foundation links a real-time tracker for the exact remaining amount.
The 36th burn in July removed 1,615,827.795 BNB, worth about $932 million. The October event destroyed roughly 30,000 more tokens, and its dollar value was much higher, because the formula weighs BNB’s price as well as the number of blocks produced on BNB Smart Chain during the quarter.
What’s Changed in the Formula
Two details matter for anyone tracking the schedule. First, burns now execute directly on BSC following BNB Chain Fusion. Second, the Lorentz and Maxwell upgrades made BSC produce blocks more often than when the formula was first written, so the Foundation adjusted the parameters to keep the original intent intact.
The Second Burn Engine
The quarterly event isn’t the only sink. Under BEP-95, a portion of gas fees from every BSC block is burned in real time, with the ratio set through validator governance. That ties ongoing burning to network activity, so a busier chain burns more.
Price Reaction
BNB was trading near $725, with bearish indicators pointing to $700 support. That’s no shock. Quarterly burns are predictable, so they can already be partly reflected in the market price.
Supply is shrinking on a transparent, auditable schedule, and BNB’s growing role as a strategic reserve asset adds a demand story on top. But a burn is only half the equation. Price follows demand, and a scheduled burn doesn’t create it. For now, the 37th BNB burn confirms the program is on track, and the market will decide what that’s worth.
