The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has introduced rippled version 2.4.0, marking a significant update designed to enhance security, compliance, and efficiency across the network. RippleX, the development arm of XRPL, officially announced the release, detailing a series of new features, bug fixes, and amendments aimed at optimizing the blockchain’s performance. As with previous updates, these amendments must receive at least 80% validator approval over two consecutive weeks before activation, ensuring the network remains decentralized.

Key Amendments: NFTs, Compliance, and Security
One of the most notable upgrades in rippled v2.4.0 is DynamicNFT (XLS-46), a feature that enables the minting of mutable NFTs. This allows NFT metadata (URI) to be modified post-issuance, offering greater flexibility to creators and developers.
Additionally, the PermissionedDomains (XLS-80) amendment enhances compliance by restricting domain access within the XRPL ecosystem, aligning with regulatory frameworks. Another crucial security-focused amendment, DeepFreeze (XLS-77), grants token issuers the ability to freeze specific trust lines, preventing asset transfers for designated holders.
Furthermore, fixFrozenLPTokenTransfer ensures that liquidity pool (LP) tokens cannot be moved if at least one asset in the pool is frozen, strengthening asset control mechanisms. The fixInvalidTxFlags amendment refines transaction flag validation, ensuring accurate checks for CredentialCreate, CredentialAccept, and CredentialDelete transactions.
Performance Enhancements and Bug Fixes
Beyond these amendments, the update introduces critical performance improvements. A new simulated API method allows developers to conduct dry runs of transactions, providing insights into potential outcomes before executing them on-chain. This enhances efficiency and minimizes transaction risks.
Security improvements also extend to the Unique Node List (UNL), where validators can now require multiple UNL publishers for consensus, reducing centralization risks and bolstering network integrity.
Several longstanding bugs have been addressed in this release. Notably, a fix resolves issues preventing rippled from building on Windows with VS2022, along with MacOS unit test failures. Additional fixes improve transaction accuracy, eliminating past errors such as double fee charges and failed inbound ledger acquisitions.
