- Robinhood is now authorized by the FCA to offer crypto services in the UK.
- Existing FCA registration could ease compliance under upcoming UK crypto regulations.
- The approval comes as Robinhood seeks growth following a decline in crypto revenue.
Robinhood has secured regulatory approval to provide cryptocurrency services in the United Kingdom, marking an important step in the company’s international expansion. The approval comes as the UK prepares to introduce a broader regulatory framework for digital assets, giving firms with existing registrations an early advantage.
The announcement also lifted investor sentiment, with Robinhood (NASDAQ: HOOD) shares rising in premarket trading on Monday. HOOD stock traded at $87.23, up 0.77% ahead of the market open.
Robinhood Joins FCA’s Crypto Register
Robinhood’s UK subsidiary has been added to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) register of authorized crypto-asset firms. The registration allows the company to legally provide crypto-related services while complying with the UK’s anti-money laundering (AML) requirements.
The FCA introduced its crypto registration system in 2020 to oversee businesses operating in the digital asset sector. Since then, more than 50 companies have received approval under the framework.
Robinhood now joins a growing list of established crypto firms operating under the FCA’s oversight. Companies such as Ripple and Kraken are already registered, alongside traditional financial institutions including BlackRock and BNY, reflecting increasing institutional participation in the UK’s regulated crypto market.
UK’s New Crypto Rules Are Approaching
Robinhood’s approval arrives just as the UK moves toward a more comprehensive regulatory regime for digital assets.
Under the upcoming framework, crypto businesses will need to obtain authorization under the new legislation to continue operating. Applications are expected to open toward the end of September and continue through February next year, while the new rules are scheduled to take effect in October.
Firms already registered with the FCA are expected to benefit from their existing compliance programs and regulatory controls. That foundation could make the transition to the new authorization process smoother than for companies entering the market for the first time.
Expansion Comes After Crypto Revenue Decline
The UK approval also comes at a notable time for Robinhood’s crypto business.
In its second-quarter earnings report, the company disclosed that cryptocurrency revenue declined to $100 million, highlighting slower performance in that segment.
Expanding regulated crypto services into another major financial market could help Robinhood diversify its customer base and strengthen its long-term digital asset strategy. While the company has not detailed the full range of crypto products it plans to offer in the UK, regulatory approval provides the legal foundation needed to grow its presence.

Robinhood’s FCA registration represents more than just another regulatory milestone. It positions the company ahead of the UK’s upcoming crypto authorization process while expanding its footprint in one of Europe’s largest financial markets. As the UK rolls out stricter digital asset regulations, firms with established compliance frameworks may be better positioned to capitalize on future growth opportunities.
