The purchases came as Coinbase shares plunged below the $150 mark, hit by a broader market correction driven by fears surrounding the Trump-led trade war. Since the start of 2025, COIN stock has lost nearly 39%, falling from $250 to under $160. Yet, in Tuesday’s pre-market trading, the stock rebounded by 3%, trading near $159.40.
According to the latest trade disclosures, Ark’s Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW) picked up 64,806 Coinbase shares, valued at $10.2 million, while the ARK Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF) added another 19,708 shares worth $3.1 million. COIN now represents 5.92% of ARKW and a hefty 7.65% of ARKF, making it one of the top holdings across both funds.
Cathie Wood, known for her high-conviction plays in disruptive tech, resumed COIN accumulation last month after a sharp correction. Her strategy of investing in future-forward companies like Tesla, Robinhood, and Coinbase has earned Ark Invest both criticism and admiration for its bold swings.
The recent dip in COIN stock was further fueled by CEO Brian Armstrong’s sale of 14,000 shares, worth $2.5 million, executed through his living trust under a Rule 10b5-1 plan set in August 2024.
As for where COIN is headed next, analyst sentiment remains split. Ali Martinez warns of a bearish breakdown with potential downside to $100. However, others remain optimistic, suggesting that if the $145 support holds—buoyed by institutional demand—it could rebound to $200 and beyond.
