Bitwise Makes History: First Ethereum ETF Commercial Minted As NFT (Over 1,000 Sold!)

Bitwise, a leading crypto asset manager, has released the first-ever commercial for an exchange-traded fund (ETF) minted as a non-fungible token (NFT).

The ad campaign, titled “Capture a piece of crypto history: the 1st national TV spot minted as an NFT,” promotes Bitwise’s upcoming Ethereum ETFs, which are still awaiting final approval from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

A Playful Take on Crypto’s 24/7 Nature

The 39-second commercial features a lighthearted exchange between two actors, representing the traditional financial system and the ever-active world of cryptocurrency. The ad cleverly highlights the 24/7 nature of blockchain technology compared to the traditional financial markets that typically close their doors by the end of the business day.

Minting for a Cause

The commercial itself is available for minting on the Zora Network, a platform designed to support the burgeoning NFT culture. As of today, over 1,198 copies of the Bitwise commercial have been minted by 530 unique users.

Interestingly, Bitwise is taking a unique approach with the proceeds from the NFT sales. The company plans to split the profits equally, with 50% going to Protocol Guild, a collective funding mechanism for Ethereum core developers, and the remaining 50% being shared by the actors who starred in the commercial.

Bitwise’s History of Innovation

This isn’t the first time Bitwise has pushed boundaries in the crypto asset management space. In December 2023, the company released a viral commercial featuring actor Jonathan Goldsmith, known for his “Most Interesting Man in the World” campaign, to promote the launch of its Bitcoin ETFs. The success of this campaign, which ultimately saw the SEC approve 11 Bitcoin spot ETFs in January 2024, underscores Bitwise’s commitment to creative and impactful marketing strategies.

With the minting of their Ethereum ETF commercial as an NFT, Bitwise continues to demonstrate its innovative approach to the crypto market. As the SEC deliberates on the approval of Ethereum ETFs, this campaign serves to further heighten investor interest in this emerging asset class.
