IOTA has officially stepped into the liquid staking arena with the testnet launch of Swirl, an innovative platform that allows users to stake IOTA tokens while retaining full liquidity. The move is a major milestone for the IOTA ecosystem, which now aims to become a key player in the evolving Web3 and DeFi landscape.
With Swirl, users stake their IOTA and receive stIOTA, a liquid representation of their staked assets. These tokens can be freely used within the DeFi ecosystem—whether to provide liquidity, participate in decentralized exchanges (DEXs), or serve as collateral for loans. This model gives users the best of both worlds: staking rewards without asset lockups.
Did anyone mention liquid staking on #IOTA?

Swirl Unlocks DeFi Liquidity and Utility
Liquid staking is rapidly becoming a cornerstone in decentralized finance, and Swirl puts IOTA in the middle of this shift. Traditional staking often requires users to lock up their assets for extended periods, limiting their utility. Swirl changes that.
By issuing stIOTA tokens when users stake IOTA, the network ensures those assets remain productive throughout the DeFi landscape. This approach enhances capital efficiency and network engagement, much like Ethereum’s EigenLayer, which has already gained traction for its liquid restaking mechanism.
Furthermore, Swirl sets the stage for interoperable DeFi strategies, enabling users to combine staking with other protocols like lending platforms or yield farming. This opens new doors for developers and investors alike, making IOTA more competitive among top-tier blockchains.
Community-Driven Launch Strengthens Network
Swirl’s availability on the IOTA testnet offers users a chance to explore its features risk-free while providing feedback to refine the platform before its mainnet debut. This community-first approach helps identify bugs, optimize functionality, and ensure a smooth rollout.
More than just a technical update, Swirl is a major step forward in IOTA’s Web3 vision—creating a decentralized, transparent, and user-centric financial ecosystem. With Swirl, IOTA not only boosts its own utility but also lowers the barriers for DeFi adoption on a global scale.

As liquid staking becomes a staple of next-gen finance, IOTA’s Swirl stands out as a timely and transformative solution—turning staked assets into active capital and revolutionizing how users interact with DeFi.
